hi all just wondering if anyone can help me i have a 52 reg 206 1400
lx and for the past week or so it has been makin an annoyin clicking
noise from what seems to be the gearbox??

The diagnosis is as follows (a bit long winded but best to start from
    scratch) :-

I was driving down the road and when i took my foot off the
accelarator to press the brake it started makin a clickin noise. It
sounded like my front drivers side mudflap was loose and draggin on
the wheel so i got out to investigate and the mudflap was fine
(puzzled look on face at this point). Anyway I continued my journey
with this noise and took it to a few garages the next day. I took a
few of the workers out and I had varied views from different garages
some people said thrust bearing others said the gearbox was done in
and most of them just sat in the passenger seat with puzzled looks on
thier faces. I know somebody who is good with cars and he seems to
think that its not that much of an issue and it maybe just needs the
gearbox oil and the thrust bearing changing. The problem is i am a bit
worried by one mechanic saying it is the gearbox and im thinking that
it may be a bit dangerous to drive. The noise gets a little bit
quieter when i dip the clutch but it does not go away. However it does
go away if i slightly touch the accelarator i dont even have to rev i
just have to touch it. This is not affecting the performance of the
    car at all!!

I am at my wits end with all these different diagnosis it seems like
the only option left is to go to Peugeot up the road and pay £48.50
    for a diagnosis!!

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

    Many Thanx
    Tom

  2. Try tracing the accelerator cable along its route. As you describe it, it
sounds as if when it is completely slack, it is vibrating against something.
Maybe a clip has come adrift or something.

Where are you? you dont have to take it to a pug workshop.to me it
sounds like the bearing in the gearbox.they can make noises for many
years, try and spray wd40 or oil on to the bearing in the bellhouseing.
if you can get to it?

thanx for the replies. to be honest the noise sounds a bit to complex
to be the accelarator cable as it is a bit too loud and doesnt really
sound like a loose clip although i will look into it. As for the
bearing is there anywhere where i can get a walkthrough on how to
lubricate it as i dont really have any idea sorry I know it sounds a
bit silly but if it goes beyond filling the screenwash or engine oil
im a bit hopeless. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    many thanx
