turbo lag

    My 1.8 td seems to suffer bad turbo lag. there seems to be nothing untill about 2300rpm and then woosh. if you get to a hill and the engine is at 2000 or less, even in 2nd it dies and you have to put her in 1st. is this a normal trait?
