Temporary Failure of Power Steering 2004 307

    The power steering on my 2004 307 failed as I was slowing down approaching the traffic
    lights to make a sharp right hand turn.
    As I was within a few hundred yards of a parking slot I continued to drive at a slow pace.
    When I checked the fluid level it was below the min mark on the dip gauge but yet
    it only required less than half a teacup of fluid to bring the level up to the max level.
    When I started the car the following morning the the power steering worked fine. I have
    only clocked up about 50 miles since and had no further problems with the steering.
    Any views on what was the likely cause of the failure
