Tapping engine on Peugeot partner tepee 2008

    Hi , just bought a 2008 Peugeot Partner Tepee .
    After driving it home 15 mins only, I could smell a burning oil sort of smell. The engine when is on a just ticking over is making a tapping noise . Not knowing much about cars etc I’m thinking this is going to be an expensive problem ?
    any advise welcome
