swapping engine bits, old new etc

    i have been told that for example, an 8v peugeot and a 16v peugoet of
    the same make (i.e 106) both have the same bottom end, only the head
    and the loom and ecu are the main differences. can anyone confirm this?
    i read on a forum that someone put a 16v head on a 106 1.1. but i dont
    know if there is any truth in this. i cant get a decent picture of 2
    engines to compare.
