can anyone shed any light , I have replaced the o ring on the stop
solenoid, this stops the leak for a day or so and then it returns, I have
wrapped ptfe tape around the base of the solenoid, this too stops the leak
for a day then the leak returns
    help

In mine, the fuel was leaking through the top of the solenoid, and
replacement was the only cure. I suspect that your attempts so far have only
resulted in the fuel draining out of the solenoid while you have it out to
replace the O ring, and it takes a day to work its way back up through the
top. If you get a replacement, just make sure you know the manufacturer of
the pump - Lucas or Bosch.
