The aircon works fine...nice and cool etc., but when I switch it off, a
nasty 'cigarette ash' type smell comes through the heating vents. Its OK
whilst the a/c is running. Can anybody help.

Might be fungus or so. Visit your dealer to have the system cleaned.

It could be mould or fungus growing inside the system - nice - you can buy
special spray to clean it, or take it to the dealership.

It's worth deliberately drying out the system after using it - crank down
the windows, turn the system off and select full heat for a couple of miles
(when you get back home is useful).

Have just seen this and the 'fix' on another website - you have
bacteria/fungus - you'll need antibacterial spray on all your A/C routings
and filters - 2 or 3 times seems to be recommended - good luck!
