Part fell of

    So i was parking and all the sudden my gearbox locked and i could not switch to any gears. After a while of trying i got it into 1st and this thing fell of under the car. Now my car has a louder exhaust sound and the gears are way easier to change.
    It is a standard Peugeot 307 , 2002 model. I have never seen this part before, does anyone know what it is?
    And is it anything important? I drove the car home afterwards and it felt just the same except the gears and the louder exhaust.
