Mad 305.. I'm open to suggestions guys

Other than scrap it, as has been said before.

Right. In the continuing saga of my 305 GTX (one that probably should've
ended long ago when I took ownership and made it suffer so much), I have now
bought another car and taken it off the road.

New (old) car I've got is a Porsche 924. It's not really fast but very nice.

So, the 305 is off the road and I'm considering just about every sort of
modification imaginable. It handles pretty well but has masses of body roll,
so was thinking about lowering it. Anyone got a clue what sort of
springs/shocks would work well on this thing? What's the percieved wisdom on
simply 'lowering' a car - will it become skittish? I know not much about
this area of car set up.
It has front & rear anti-roll bars, but they don't look that big to me.. are
stronger ones a possibility? What about a strut brace? Could I get one
    custom built?

As for the engine... A full rebuild of the current unit is probably gonna
cost around the £1000 mark. It's an 8v 1905cc XU engine. Should I try to
shove the 16v engine in there instead - maybe with the brakes off a 405?
Rear brakes are drums on trailing arms. Any ideas how I could fit discs?

Anyone have any other suggestions? I don't have unlimited cash here, but I
want to price up all my options.

There are, apparently, two prototype 305 rally cars at Peugeot's
factory/museum at Sochaux. They have the V6 out of the 504, RWD and mental
widened wheel arches. I'd give selected portions of my anatomy (maybe a
kidney or something) for one of those.

    Am I insane?

    Chris.

    Hi,
    nice.
Not really fast, excepted the spicy Carrera GT (Turbo version of the 924,
damn !), but I also find it nice. Mostly made with VW parts, which means it
shouldn't that hard to find, and far cheaper than in France (here, VW parts
are expensive, far more than Pug ones).
    roll,
Sure, we use to say it lays like a bitch, but stays on the road. Rides like
a bike into a curve, just it rolls the opposite way :)
    on
No clue, but must look unusual. Anyway, a 305 with a fuel pump buzzing *is*
unusual (note I'm sure of that, even if I haven't seen nor heard it).
It's an option, another wiring job needed (Motronic ECU), for disc brakes, I
can't remember any 305 having rear discs, so you may have to invent it.
    No clue.
You've already said that, I haven't got any confirmation of that. I guess I
    should mail the Museum.
I haven't seen any 305 in the Museum when I visited it, on April, 2001, but
I saw almost all "recent" racing Pugs (104ZS, 504 Coupé, "of course" 205T16,
T16 Evo2, 405 T16 "Raid", 905 (bit of emotion here, I only saw it in the
telly 10 years ago, what a race car, it has a particular place into my
heart), 206WRC, 406 Touring car (DTM, I guess it was similar to BTCC
    version)).
LOL ! It may well be a big sacrifice, moreover with only one knee it
wouldn't be easy for the clutch :)
Perhaps, but you're more certainly one of these 305 fans, which are not
    common :)

    Hi Chris,

I forgot to mention, for the 305 V6, you might make a confusion with the 505
Dangel, whom 3 racing models were built for rally-raids, with the V6 took
    from the 505.

    Hi G.T.,

I've got some photos of the 305 V6 on my website - one externally, and the
    other showing the engine bay:

    Mental, huh?

Apparently it's stored somewhere in Sochaux, but not available for viewing
    in the museum.

    Glad to hear it Marc!

Well, the MOT passing, not the insanity ;)
Cheers. To be honest, I'm not sure what to do with my 305 at the moment as I
need to find somewhere to store it as I begin the rebuild - hopefully I can
find a garage somewhere, as currently I have it parked in my work's
    underground car park!

    Hello,
Yup ! But the airfilters appear a little small to me, as it seems I've got a
bigger one on my 205 Diesel :)
It possibly comes from the Museum, considering that, by the side of the 305
I can regonize, for sure, a racing 504 sedan, which won many african
rallies, like the Safary Rally (Kenya), before being replaced by the 504
    Coupé V6, and around the 305, a 404, a 403 and a 203.

Perhaps you could mail the Museum to ask them for pictures, I got two pics
of the 205 Verve (205 break prototype made by Pininfarina, never released),
at . At least that was their e-mail address on
January, 2002. Perhaps they kept it.

Thanks for that, I'll try to get in contact. I really would like to see the
car and find out what sort of modifications were made to the chassis -
certainly there is no room on my 305 to make it RWD! I imagine the whole
centre of the floor must have been raised to make way for the propshaft, and
the fuel tank must have been moved to make space for the differential/rear
    axle.

I think that's too much work for me, but if I'm gonna go crazy with power,
I'd ideally want it driven out the rear wheels in a more 'balanced' car.
Having 160+ bhp driven out through the front wheels with hardly any weight
at the back seems like a bad idea in a 305. I'm thinking of maybe cooling
down my ideas to turn it into a reliable daily driver, maybe get around
130bhp out of the 8v engine, fit a ton of gadgets like a car pc/sat nav/rear
parking sensors/etc/etc and turn it into an executive car with a difference
    ;)

    Hi Chris,
I guess (whithout knowing the car, I just saw both photographs yesterday)
they used another approach, but a classic one, which consists in a specific
chassis (or a 604/505 derivated chassis) and just fit a 305-like bodykit
above it - just the same way they built the 205 T16, nothing to see with a
205 excepted the look it had.
Of course, this doesn't make a change for me, the 205 T16 is just... mmmm
well... Rhâââ lovely, I'd love having one parked behind the house :)
Or add some sandbags in the boot. Remember this little tweaking with Renault
    Dauphines & R8 (especially Gordinis) ?
    nav/rear
So you'd go for a 205 GTi lump I suppose.
Would be as fun as the overboosted 305 :)
