HDi pump packing up

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Marc Amsterdam, Mar 13, 2006.

  1. :-(

tha pump of my 406 HDi is packing up,
it makes a whining noise, and it leaks fuel.

Only hope is that it just might be the stop solenoid, but i'm afraid
    i'm due for a new/revised pump

    anyone any comments or tips?

    cheers

  2. Bad news, the pump has gone tits up defenately.
new one is 620 +VAT and a time consuming fit.

dont have the place nor the time to do it my self...

could this be an over tensioned cambelt?

What is wrong with the old one, is it just the front bearing? Can it not be
    repaired by anyone?

  4. not likely, diesel is pissing out bigtime, so it's not just the front
bearing, and, that bearing is prised in so you would have to replace
    the whole shaft, plunjers etc
A complete rebuild would cost me almost as much as a new one,
so i just have byte the bullit,

  8. Before you commit yourself, read Brian's message. You will need to ensure
that it is the correct pump (i.e. the high pressure one and not the lift
    pump).

    Hi,
You can't be wrong, IIRC the lift pump is an immerged type, into the fuel
    tank.

  11. I meant before he buys the wrong pump, not that he might have identified the
    wrong one.
