Dead battery - problems after replacing

    The battery died on my 56 plate 207. We removed it without checking the correct procedure and replaced it. The car goes into economy mode, won't start and the battery light flashes. Tried a bsi reboot (although I can't open electric window) but nothing. There is a click when I try to start engine but it doesn't turn over. Any suggestions please before I call someone out. Thanks
