Thanks for that Mark, much appreciated.

The fault has not re-occurred yet and the annoying thing is that I took it
to them with the fault on and they saw it !!!!

Anyway, as for the Midlands I travel to Brum quite a lot and but it's
probably not practical, thanks for the offer though !!!

Can't wait for it to go faulty again so I can drive it straight into their
workshop and leave the engine running demanding that they fix it !!!

    I'll keep you posted

    Regards,

All - when I started this thread I never thought it would create such a
response. Finally my 407SW has gone into the dealer for investigation
after I "beat them up" in a fax and e-mail after my engine had a manic
noisy fit last weekend. Sounded like a tractor. They say they are
going to replace the ECU and the BSI and that should fix the other
niggles I am having (cruise control, service indicator). They are
keeping it 3 days but the consolation is they have lent me a "pocket
rocket" - a 206 GTI HDI - so can't complain. Watch this space.

Thats good Ian, my dealer has come up with more or less the same prognosis,
the BSI !! Whatever that does !!

Just got to wait for mine to fault again before they'll do anything though
    !!!

Here's the rub - they ARE going to replace the BSI and ECU but - and
there is always a but, the factory is closed for XMAS and the parts
won't be available to mid January - ho hum - no suprise there. And
even then it's only and inspired guess on their behalf - the famous
diag machine found NO fault - yet as soon as I drove away from the
dealership the cruise control reported a fault. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.

    Hi Ian,

My climate control cocked up again over Xmas, bloody typical as the dealer
    was shut !!! Grrrrrrrr

    Hi Steve

Got the ECU and BSI fitted now - engine seems really sweet so perhaps
there was a problem with the old units/software . Also had the cruise
control fixed and the service counter now reads correctly. The MILLION
dollar question is - will it last?- I hope so because it now feels like
the car I bought and not the one that had a hissy fit at 3,000 miles !

Time will tell but I live in hope. Let me know how your climate
    control goes

    Hi Mate,

Glad to hear you are sorted out now, I'm still waiting for the climate
control to act up again, it's been fine for about 5-6 weeks now.

Just had a re-call come through to book it in to get the water level sensor
replaced as they have just discovered that it's porous !!!!

Oh and the petrol cap has fell to bits !!!!!

    Happy days !!!

    I'll keep posting.................

Hey all guess what, when it went in for the recall the climate control
started acting up in front of them, so they saw all the hassle I've been
having for the last 6 months.

Anyway they have replaced the climate control panel and I suppose time will
    tell

.....only 1 guess - correct - the noise is back on my engine 4 weeks
after replacing the bits - it ran fantastically for a month - and now
its gone off again. Tonight it happened with 124 miles left on the
range, went and filled it up, thrashed it down the motorway for 7 miles
and now seems ok again.. Wonder if when the particulate filter recycles
and sticks additive in the fuel, it screws it up for a while. Anway -
a strong threatening fax to the dealer - and we'll see. Time for a row
    and a refund?
