My 406 HDi is just about to turn 20 yo! Has done 'only' 230,000kms and engine and transmission are good.
Here's the problem - any advice appreciated!
Speedo intermittently drops to zero and at the same time, the engine loses some power. 30 seconds or 5 minutes later, the speedo returns to the correct speed and full power kicks back in.
It's been doing this for a long time (which I've put up with), but is progressively getting worse. As it's got more frequent, fuel consumption seems to have increased.
I had a diagnostic done at my local Peugeot dealer and they recommended sending the speedo unit away to get it tested/repaired. The diagnostic also said "suspect MUX unit may be faulty". Looking at around $800+ (AUD) to go down this track. I'm worried that I could spend $800-1000 on the speedo but would this fix the power loss issue??
