You have the common HDI problem of the fuel lift pump in the tank breaking
up. There have been many postings on this in this group which a search in
Google Groups will no doubt find. If Peugeot do the job (assuming your no
longer covered by warranty) they will want to replace the entire system from
(and including) tank to injectors for an obscene amount of money. If you
can find a good local mechanic, provided the filter hasn't ruptured, he can
probably flush the system through and replace the pump and filters. Be
warned though that I was quoted £500 just to buy a pump.

was it diagnosed by the diag2000? pug has next to the odb codes a set
of there owne, if the management light comes on it writes to the
management system, so it should be readable

    does the pump get fuel?

    Which pump was that?

GSF list the HDI lift pumps from £64.00 (306) to £135 (Xantia). Both also
    contain the fuel level sender.

The £500 version sounds more like the high pressure pump, though it could
also be a grease monkey mixing up the two parts.

That was the price quoted, on the 'phone, by a Pug agent so they could well
have got the wrong end of the stick. Either way the whole job came out
around £800 by a good mechanic as against Pug agent's £3,500. I found
several other people on the net who had the same problem and £800ish seemed
to be the rate for all who took that route. There have also been several
who had it done under warranty because it can go at quite low mileages (at
least one at sub 30,000). Searching on Google groups should bring some up.
At the time (two years ago) there was also a website with a forum where it
was a hot topic but I can't find the site now.

Thanks for all the replies! I got it to a Pug dealer and all the fuel
system has to be replaced! It’s still under warrenty so that’s thier
    problem

When the stores guys searched the data base for my car it came up as
not having a lift pump (sender only) It’s an estate. any comments on
    this one?

    Thanks again

You probably have the Siemens system, which has a bladder in the fuel
feed line on the engine to manually suck the fuel up from the tank, as
opposed to the Bosch system which uses a lift pump incorporated in the
tank sender unit. Otherwise basically the same. Just makes it a lot
more difficult to start after they have changed the entire fuel
    system!!

Makes you wonder if it is worth replacing the lift pump onna regular
basis when the waranty expires. That way if it fails Peugeot may pay
up for the whole repair if it fails within 12 months.

What would it cost to get this done at a main dealer ?
