My local audio specialist has tried to install my Alpine HU ( 7893R )
and MP3 Changer in my '99 406 Coupe SE, you know the peogeot audio odd
ball with the JBL amp and speaker componants. So far he has managed
to get sound from all the speakers by using the Alpines pre amp out
put, but the price to pay is that there is a very loud click when
changing modes or turning the unit on or off. There is also a constant
whine interference from the alternator. --

    Clearly an unacceptable result.

The problem is he says that the Alpines output is 4V , way higher than
    what the JBL is wanting.

I really want to use the Alpine system, if only to put up two fingers
to peugeot, but how on eart can I get the damn thing to work
correctly, I even thought about using an alpine amp instead of the
JBL ,but will this work with the speaker system already installed.

I suppose the final step would be a complete rewire , but I'd rather
leave the 406 reversable, for when I sell it,

    Any suggestions on my dilema

erhmmm your installer is a as*** a lot of carradio's have 4 v preamp
out, the reason why they do that is that the gain can be turned down a
lil more to PREVENT that the amp amplifies to much interference, so its
not because your stereo will sound louder, but will give less
interference while it plays just a loud.
I think he should check they way he did the wireing and just turn down
    the gain a lil more...

Interesting... how does one turn down the gain, I've looked in the
Alpine manual and I didnt see anything about that. Please advise me so
I can tell smarty pants installer.

He said that he didnt have to rewire , so he must have connected the
pre amp outs to the Iso connector, I seem to remember one connector
having 5 wires leading to it, is this the feed to the amp?.. Do you
know the pinouts for this connector??

I'll be on the phone first thing in the morning to see what he has to
    say about that.

I had the same problem when i installed my system into my 94' 306 if it is
the same as mine all you need to do is to install an interface surpressor to
the alternator which can be purchased from most audio shops for around £5. i
have also come across the same problem in a 106 before.

  5. Hi Tony,

See my previous replies in your other posts, by now I really really want to
kick your installer in the teeth...... Belive me when I say that the line
out of the head unit to the amp and that of the head unit would highly
unlikely cause the symptoms you have descibed.

This comes down to the wiring that has been done by your dick installer,
where do you live? if your close enough I am gonna do you a favor and sort
your car out for you.... This originally head unit and changer set upshould
have been a 1 and a half hour job MAX... so god knows what your installer is
    pissing about at.... !
