hi all. newbie here and require some help. my 406 2.0ltr petrol has
developed a problem. there is two fans on the front of the air con
rad. the drivers side is the only one working. wether i use the air
con or not?. also the temp goes right up to 105 then the drivers side
fan comes on and the temp drops. i have read the manual and it
mensions a bitron sensor. could this be at fault, checked all the
fuses no probs?.the left hand fan moves free enough also this weekend
flushed the rad out and fitted a new thermostat. new water pump 10
months ago. any help would be appreciated thanks shaun...p.s. car is a
    98 model.

It should be the sensor. The temp should go to 96, fans on, drop to
    92.
The 2.0i in my 605 goes up to 100 max. That happens only in the city,
    during slow traffic.
Be careful, the cam heads on these motors don’t really like
    overheating.

from peugeot. i know which one it is on the thermostat housing.so not
    a bad job.shaun
p.s. just been outside and with the ignition on and unplug the bitron
sensor only the right side comes on?.

I’ve heard that Peugeot made 3 different thermostat versions,
depending on where the car was sold. The temp usually goes up to 105
    and even 110 on LPGs.
But 406 people on some Pug forums say that 105 is normal in the city
or doing 170 on the freeway. Try asking a Peugeot service, if they say
it’s OK, then it probably is.
According to Vivid Workshop, the first fan (the one you saw turning)
should start turning at 93.5 (96 for aircon) and the second one should
start at 101. If the second one doesn’t work, there’s something wrong
and this is also the reason why it goes up to 105.
