405 Door lock problem

The rear offside passenger door on my 405 estate (1995) will not open from
    the inside or outside.
I have removed the door lining and the lockmotor is making the usual clunk
and the control rods to the inside handle and the locking button move but
not as much as normal. Operating the remote lock/unlock whilst
pulling/pushing the rods does not help open the door.
I suspect a fault with the lock mechanism but how to I open the door to
    access them??

Is there a trade secret to opening the door under these conditions?

    TIA

Not trade, but once had similar problem. Congrats on getting door lining
out with door shut, I had to cut mine. Only thing I can think of is to
spray everything with a lubricating solvent like WD40 through a long tube.

    Thanks Wichita

I was going to take the other side to pieces first to see how it all works
and maybe consider trying to take the lock motor off from the inside. The
WD40 idea sounds like its worth a go.
