In my Haynes manual for my 1997 D Turbo 306, It states you can check the air
conditioning by looking at the "Air conditioning system drier bottle sight
    glass"

apparently this has a sight glass and humidity indicator

the only problem is i cant find it ..

The manual says it is located in the front right hand corner of the engine
compartment. Does anyone else know were it is located ?

Did they put this on all models ?

Have a look for a plain circular cannister down beside the
washer filler cap. Unfortunately there are no indicators on
this type, so you'll need to go to an air-con specialist to
    check it.

Both my 306 and a friend's, (98 models) come with this type,
so I assume it is standard on all models around that age.

The guy who did mine said he would do a regas for £40 but he did all
diagnostic stuff, put dye in etc, because i didnt know the history of the
car as there might be leaks this cost £70.

I phoned the AA they wanted about £65 for a regas and another local garage
    wanted £70 + Vat.
