306 - 1997 rear screen washer blockage...

Discussion in 'Peugeot 306' started by The Kontaminator, Nov 7, 2004.

  1. If I try and pump any water to the rear windscreen, nothing comes out - not
    even a drip.

I've tried sticking a pin in the nozzles, taking the wiper arm off and
sticking a pin down the hole, to try and dislodge anything that maybe
    blocking the flow of water.

No joy. What's my next step to try and rectify this, and whats the best way
    to go about it?

    Many thanks.

Take off the rear hatch trim to get to the wiper motor. Pull off the
washer tube from the motor and switch on the washers, Does the water
come out the tube? Replace the tube and close the hatch. Lift up the
washer jet assembly and see whether any water comes out when operated.
If it does you need a new washer jet assembly. If not then it is
blocked in the wiper motor. The route through the motor is a right
angle and on the angle is where it usually blocks. You need to push a
very thin piece of wire from either end and then blow through with
compressed air. I have dissolved the blockage by carefully pouring
some neat vinegar down the tube and leaving it there for a few
minutes. If and when you do clear it, then I suggest you run some hot
water through the pipes from the front to clear any debris and refill
the bottle with good quality additive.

had the same problem take off washer jets just pulls off the stick a
welding rod down the hole and get somebody to operate the washer at same
time if this is clear the you need new jets

  4. I've been there with my 1st 306 (Phase II)...

Even when it was cleared by a garage, it sprayed water with chalky
deposits over the back window (so completely useless as a jet!).

No use to you, but the phase 3s have a dedicated jet at the top of the
rear hatch that sprays downwards, thereby avoiding this annoyance. I'm
thinking this is a common fault with pre-phase 3s. So much so, Peugeot
changed the design to address it.

Not sure if you still need advice, but it might be phosphates from the
    detergent used with the water.
When it happened to my '87 305, I traced it to a blocked hose, and
used some stiff electrical wire (the kind that's in the walls) to
    unblock it.
Took about half an hour, including de-and attaching.
    Hope this helps!
