206 auto selecting sport mode by itself?

    My son claims his 03 1.4 petrol peugeot 206 occasionally selects sports mode without him doing anything. This happens when city driving and as a new driver he finds it disconcerting. I've tried to emulate the same conditions but the car behaves as normal for me. My daughter backs up my son after taking it for a drive. Any ideas on this, anyone?
