    Hi,

New to this Forum, and to my Peugeot 308, which I acquired from my daughter. The engine has a distinct "rattle" sound on start-up and idle, but it appears to disappear at speed (40mph-ish, so my daughter tells me). The engine has only done around 70k miles, recent oil/filter change.

I suspected a valve issue (tappets?) and have removed the rocker cover and given a visual examination, and all seems to be well. The cam chain appeared to be correctly tensioned and the guides in good order. Realising that the engine has hydraulic tappets, I wondered if these have seals which might wear, or could be replaced? Any thoughts from the collective well of knowledge would be most welcome...
