    1.1 litre, 206 L, front washer doesn't work.
No sound of a pump working.
Rear washer works OK and the pump can be hear running.
Have found the only pump under the front wing and it has two outlets.
How does that power both sets of washers separately?
    What is the likely fault?
    Advice please.

Almost certainly a fault on the stalk or a wiring problem. the switching
is bit complex as it has to reverse the polarity of the supply to the motor.
Test the motor and pump valves maybe by direct connection the the
battery. One way round the front should work and the other way the back
    should work.

    Thanks Bob

I had more or less deduced that reversing the polarity had to be the way.
I wonder what sort of pump achieves the desired effect?

Lying on the ground dealing with it in this weather is not a welcome job!
    Needs must however.

The pump has a pair of valve in it which allow water through if the
impeller is going in one direction or through the other valve if it is
going in the other direction. I conclude that the problem is electrical
as the motor will run in one direction and as it uses a simple DC motor
it is very likely to run in the other direction provided that power is
    applied.
These motors/pumps are standard in nearly every make of car now as using
them save the cost of a second motor and possibly a second tank too.

Once again thanks Bob for that intriguing insight.
Haven't braved the elements yet to do the check.
My wife's car and not too pressing as the screen very seldom gets dirty
    enough to need washing enroute.

    To complete the embarrassing story!
The problem cropped up just before an MOT.
Se we declared that the washer was not working.
We'll fix they said and apparently did by blowing through the system
somewhere with an airline which seemed odd as I'd tried something similar.
On getting home it was no working so has been ignored.
    Until yesterday! Then it worked!
The penny soon dropped and I realised that I had been pulling the
multifunction lever in the wrong direction.
It's my wife's car but I have a 406 which is much the same so am embarrassed
    by a stupid error.
    Another Senior Moment!

So reassuring to find out that other people do these things as well. ;o)
